Graduate Honors Awards

Nominations Due March 4th at Noon

Each year, in April, the Graduate Programs at the University of Montevallo gather to recognize the students of our graduate programs. Each program’s faculty select a student who exemplifies outstanding scholarship and professional characteristics in their discipline. In addition to these awards, UM’s Graduate Council and Graduate Studies Office request nominations for three additional awards given at the Graduate Honors Reception.

Graduate Faculty Diversity Award

Nomination Form

Recognizes a graduate faculty member who has demonstrated leadership and commitment to diversity, inclusion, and multiculturalism through academic excellence, service, volunteerism, and academic research or creative activity.

Open to any faculty that teaches graduate courses at UM, including adjunct instructors in the graduate program.

Individuals can be nominated by students, faculty, staff, administration, or board members of UM but should not be self-nominated All nominations require a completed nomination form. Additional letters of support detailing the faculty member’s contribution and eligibility for the award may also be included. One recipient will be selected annually to receive this award.


Graduate Student Diversity Award

Recognizes a UM graduate student who has demonstrated leadership and commitment to diversity, inclusion, and multiculturalism through academic excellence, service, volunteerism, and research. 

Open to any graduate student that has completed at least 12 credit hours.

Individuals can be nominated by students, faculty, staff, administration, or board members of UM but should not be self-nominatedAll nominations require a completed nomination form. Additional letters of support detailing the student’s contribution and eligibility for the award may also be included. One recipient will be selected annually to receive this award.


Graduate Teaching Award

Nomination Form

Recognizes the crucial role that graduate faculty have in preparing students for professional careers.

The award will be given based on the faculty member’s positive impact on the students in one of the University of Montevallo’s Graduate Programs. The recipient must be a full-time faculty member teaching in one of the University’s Graduate programs. The recipient must spend at least half their time in direct teaching activities. Candidates will be selected based on their commitment to teaching and the influence that they have had on students in the teaching and learning process.

Nominations may be submitted by an alumnus, a student, a university faculty member, or a university staff member. One recipient will be selected annually to receive this award.
